Urban Angel is made up of a small group of private art collectors, all of whom are totally committed to the scene and the art itself.

We are passionate about our art and have worked very hard to build the collections we currently have. We believe that we are on the verge of something very special in the Art World, maybe something never seen before?”

We are a primary dealer with 9 affiliated artists, some of which you will be very familiar with. They offer a very diverse body of work, which covers various creative styles, from stencil work, sculpture, contemporary and street art. We will be announcing dates for a group show via our mailing system, so please feel free to sign up.

We also offer secondary market originals, prints, statues and merchandise from the Urban and Contemporary art scene.

Urban Art started from the roots up, rather than the traditional route. It is accessible to anyone that wishes to get involved and you can start collecting Urban Art on a small budget.

There has been increasing press coverage in recent months and the Urban Art movement is being taken very seriously now, with pieces frequently appearing at auction houses. February 2008 saw Bonhams first auction dedicated to Urban Art, which shows the progression this scene has made in only a few years.

As more and more people start collecting Urban Art, choosing the right piece is getting harder and harder, with much speculation and hype surrounding certain artists. We aim to offer a non bias selection of what we believe to be some of the very best talent around. Something for people of all budgets and tastes.

Everything you see listed on our website is actually in stock, either at our offices or at Constantine.

We don¹t make out to be something we are not. We source product from around the World and offer it to our customers via our online website. We work extremely closely with the vast majority of other Urban Art galleries and dealers from around the Globe and benefit from very strong relationships with our partners. We offer work from artists who are up and coming, as well as fully established ones. We are very dedicated in what we do and believe we offer something slightly different to other online galleries already operating in the UK.

Gogol Bordello Inspires Immigrant Punk Exhibit

Black Maria Art Gallery, located in Los Angeles and dedicated to promoting non-mainstream art, will host a group exhibition featuring work from fourteen different artists in late October. The purpose of the show, entitled Immigrant Punk, is to pay homage to immigrants in America who, rather than lose their identity in assimilation, maintain their cultural roots with pride.

Immigrant Punk will feature the latest work from both local and international artists. Though not all of the contributors have experienced immigrating to America firsthand, they were all able to identify with the theme by returning to the immigrant roots of their families.

In fact, one of the gallery’s own curators, Sam Saghatelian, has created paintings for the theme inspired by his Armenian heritage. Other artists include Douglas Alvarez (Smoked shown on main page), whose playful paintings often focus on recognizable figures in the media, and Brazillian graffiti artist and painter Andre Firmiano (Desapego shown above).

Black Maria Gallery director Zara Zeitountsian explains that though the show is named after a song by Gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, the term is perfect because it brings to light the overlooked parallel between punk and immigration.

“[Though] immigration may be as American as apple pie, there are those individuals or groups who shape an extraordinary reality as they reinvent themselves in a new environment,” asserts Zeitountsian. “What’s significant is that certain immigrants will plunge into that maelstrom with gusto, and will not only tackle all the challenges but color the whole experience in terms of their own cultural roots and identity.

“I think there’s something of the spirit of punk music and art to all this.”

The opening reception takes place Saturday, October 20th from 7-10:30 pm. Immigrant Punk will run until November 10.

André Firmiano is a man of many media. Ink, paint, digital, and more recently spray paint, you name it and he uses it. The São Paolo artist has never met a medium that he didn’t like. And judging from his work the media like him back. All of his pieces, chaotic as they are individually, all seem to fit together well as a whole because no matter the material, Firmiano’s style is solid. He says that he wants his work to make people reflect on the role of the individual in society as well as the role of societies themselves. It’s no easy task to create symbolism that is both introspective and global at the same time, but Firmiano shines in this area. São Paolo is coming up in the world as a new center of art and culture and it looks like they’ll have no trouble fitting in if André Firmiano is characteristic of the talent they’re producing.
